It was 8.30am on 26th Feb 1996 when the auto wala took the left turn onto now called Anil Kumble Circle when I had my first glimpses of famous MG Road. During my 3 year stay I loved the city and I was totally impressed by all the goodness Bangalore had to offer including good food, its beer, weather & awestruck beauty. I think those were the good old days. Bangalore has changed a lot ever since. I was totally shocked and sad to see this beautiful city in shambles when I visited last in July 2005. It has become very crowded, pollouted, arrogant, crumbling infrastructure, incidents of crimes against lonely passengers and ladies. I hate to see this beautiful city crumbling. The present government like it’s predecessors have not done enough. It takes forever to travel to work during peak hours. How can the citizens and the government let this happen? When I was contemplating my move from USA I had to put Bangalore out of my plans - I just could not accept the fact that city has become almost unlivable.

There are people who’ll disagree with me. This recent report by Indicus Analytics puts Bangalore in 1st place and calls it best place to live. I want to know if the authors of this report ever visited the cities they analyzed?

This is just so funny that now government today came back with report that they did not find any conclusive evidence on pesticides in cola. They apparently took 213 samples from 14 states and did their test in Mysore and Gujrat labs. This controversy is following the script from the movie “Corporate”. I’m interested in seeing what happens next.

No conclusive evidence on pesticides in soft drinks: Ramadoss

NEW DELHI: An expert committee set up by Union Health ministry to examine the report by Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) on pesticide level in soft drinks held that there was no conclusive evidence on presence of different pesticides in the concentration reported, Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss said on Tuesday.

Very refreshing to see that there are people out there who are actually doing hard work in bringing out the best talent for the coveted seats of IIT instead of demanding reservation for them. Rediff is reporting a story about tiny school in Patna, Bihar that provides coaching to the 30 students for the IIT exam. I loved their thinking - “Intelligence is not birth specific”

Bihar’s tiny school is churning out IIT-ians

Anand Kumar, 33, a local mathematician, and Abhayanand, 52, Patna’s deputy director general of police and a lover of physics, founded the school in 2003 to help promising locals get ahead in the caste-based society. They scoured Bihar’s least privileged communities for 30 bright students to coach for the exam, providing free lessons and housing. They call their group the Super 30. “Intelligence is not birth-specific,” says Abhayanand. In the first year, 16 of the group made it into the IITs. The next year, 22 made it. “This year,” Kumar says confidently, “all 30 will get into the IITs.”

Coke and Pepsi pesticide controversy is brewing again. These companies don’t seem to get it – why not disclose their lab reports publicly? Why report the samples taken in 2005? Why disparity between various markets they operate in?? And now with US trade commission making stellar comments about this controversy it now looks like a copy cat move from the movie “Corporate”. Following story that recently appeared sums it all.

Don’t burst the cola bubble, US tells India

NEW DELHI: Just when a large US trade mission is coming to India, the US government has cautioned that the recent ban on the US cola majors by state governments could affect investment.
