Aftermath Continues…

Videocon Industries dumps Dhoni as its brand ambassador following his dismal World Cup show. Anil Kumble has retired from one-day cricket after India’s early World Cup exit.

Boy! I’m waiting for few more announcements like these…We need some rationality amidst madness around game of cricket in our nation.

Financial Fallout of India’ Early WC Exit

ET is reporting that India Inc’s losses would tot up to over Rs 163-crore (Approx $ 40 Million) and this just on the Rs 350-400-crore advertising monies that they had committed with the official broadcaster, Sony Entertainment Television. Marketing and media plans are being furiously reworked to salvage big spends around the World Cup, and long faces abound across some of corporate India’s marquee names - Pepsi, LG, Reebok, Visa, Nokia, Videocon, Hero Honda, Hutch, Samsung et al. Reebok India, another big advertiser on SET for the World Cup, on the other hand has decided to totally shift its focus away from cricket, for now.

FDI from India to EU to Cross $25Billion

Not sure if this is a good thing or bad thing. Indian companies are moving up the value chain and doing value buyouts in Europe. I’m sure the investors are going gung-ho and funding large acquisitions like Tata-Corus deal. Sad part is that our country struggle to attract the same amount of FDI inflow for infrastructure, education, basic healthcare and other necessities for common man. Lot of this is related to the policy matter. It is lot easier to do business in Europe than in India L Our government has a lesson to learn.

Where are Infosys, Wipro & other Big Guns?

TOI is reporting that IDEA Cellular has signed an outsourcing deal worth $600 Million with IBM Global services. A similar deal worth $800 Million was signed by Bharti about 3 years ago. Where are our local Indian outsourcing providers? Local Indian companies are outsourcing to American companies. They are not taking advantage of the opportunities in the local market. World is really getting flat and may full circle.
